This brief was to come up with two different concepts for Australian Icons stamps and turn them into ‘First Day Covers’ – that’s the little pack you can buy at the post office if you’re a collector. We were given a range of icons to choose from – such as Ginger Meggs, Red Head matches, The Hills Hoist, The meat pie, the Driazabone etc – and develop two designs.
For the first concept, I chose The Hills Hoist, The Ute and The Victa Mower. I love working in Adobe Illustrator so I hand-drew the Hills Hoist, Ute and Victa Mower then scanned the images and produced the stamps in Illustrator.
The second concept was The Lamington, The Pavlova and The Meat Pie. I chose to do photography this time and I had a great time sourcing props and styling the shoot. Even more fun eating the pavlova I made!
